Generative AI Explained

It’s just autocomplete

Even Greg Brockman - OpenAI President and co-founder - is shocked that ChatGPT actually works.

Why?

Because ChatGPT is essentially an advanced form of autocomplete.

Yes - the same autocomplete you see in your Google search bar or when you type a message.

But here’s the kicker:

If you understand that, you instantly gain a clearer mental model for how to use it well.

In this 6-minute video, I show:

  • Why autocomplete means ChatGPT won’t replace your job - but will replace a lot of your typing

  • How autocomplete has evolved from emails… to code… to full workflows

  • What most companies are missing when they try to “use AI” (and how we’ve helped fix that at scale)

Try this next time you use ChatGPT, Copilot or other favorite AI chatbot:

Prompt:

“Complete this as if you were me and had written 75% already: [paste half-finished thought or draft]”

This one trick unlocks a completely different quality of output - because you’re priming the autocomplete with tone, thoughts and a whole lot more that would otherwise take a lot more words to describe.

Let me know if it sparks any ideas.
